Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel Demo Impressions
There has always been something about Army of Two that has me buy every game that has come out in the series. The story isn’t always attention grabbing and the gameplay can sometimes come across as clunky. But the level of customization and the unspoken story between the two characters always comes out on top.
EA has released the demo for Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel, I got my hands on it this morning and played through the single mission they give us multiple times. At least half of my play-time with the demo came from the weapon customization as well, even with only four weapons available.
Playing as Alpha you begin the mission in an unknown location after what looks like being captured, it is a little upsetting not being able to play the full mission but at least we get a taste. Almost immediately a cameo from B.O.B. and Big Boi occurs, EA and its marketing are really in your face with these two rappers. It does not detract from the experience however.
The piece of mission you get to play is pretty straight-forward, escape the compound, get to the chopper, and mow down enemies with a mini-gun in the helicopter. Nothing new here, but still quite awesome overall.
The environment looks like what you would think a hostile compound may look like, broken down walls and patched together fixes. Coloring is a little bland but there is a lot of action going on to keep you from really getting in close and gazing at your surroundings.
Weapon customization is better than ever, with four weapons available for you to tweak during the demo. Two assault rifles, a shotgun, and a pistol. I was hoping to do a little more with the pistol but you may only change the paint job. The other weapon types however have quite a nice amount of parts to make your dream gun.
And finally the masks, you are not allowed to create your own or choose from a different one during the demo. A little disappointing but not enough to make you want to throw down your controller.
The demo isn’t a huge download so I would definitely recommend getting your hands on it sometime today. You will want to play through it multiple times too.
Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel will be released March 26th for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
