Destiny Will Not Feature Animal Mounts
Developer Bungie has confirmed today that their upcoming shooter Destiny will not feature animal mounts. While speaking in a Weekly Update feature, the studio said:
We considered animal mounts, but the weight-load of the Titan’s heavy armor kept breaking their backs, and we knew that PETA would go absolutely berserk.
PETA, for those who don’t know, is the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. The organization has been well known to speak out on the treatment of animals in video games, going so far as to create their own flash game parodies of such titles as Super Meat Boy, Pokemon, and Mario.
Animal mounts have been seen in sci-fi games before, Star Wars games have used them on more than one occasion. However, Destiny will not. Instead Bungie’s shooter will make use of standard vehicles to ride and attack from.
Bungie has also confirmed in the Weekly Update that players will have second-screen functionality available. The Companion, as Bungie is calling it, will be accessible through the official Bungie Mobile App, available on iOS and Android.
Bungie did not give any details on the expected experience while using The Companion, however. This type of feature is become quite commonplace amongst games now, Battlefield 4 using its own similar feature with Battlelog.
Destiny will be released on September 9th for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
