Final Fantasy Versus XIII a “delicate situation”
If you have forgotten about Final Fantasy Versus XIII, don’t feel bad. It’s only been about seven years since the game was announced, and only about five years since we’ve heard anything even related to it, so if your memory is a little foggy, it’s completely understandable.
A short refresher course: Final Fantasy Versus XIII was first announced in 2006 along with two other games in the Fabula Nova Crystallis series. The game follows an entirely new storyline in the Final Fantasy series, and will depart from series mainstays such as the battle system and overworld layouts. Other than that, we don’t know too much, except for the few-and-far-between screenshots we’ve been given.
However, new information may be looming just over the horizon. On the inaugural episode of Square Enix Merchandise Radio, game director and character designer Tetsuya Nomura appeared as a special guest and the staff could not help themselves but ask him just exactly what was going on with Versus.
“It’s a delicate situation within the company,” reported Nomura. “The date for our next reveal is set and we are working toward preparing information for that moment. Perhaps the details as to why information couldn’t be released might be touched upon with the next information announcement.” He went on to apologize for the delay and encouraged fans to wait just a little while longer.
While rumors have been running rampant across the internet for the better part of the last decade, it looks like we might soon finally have concrete information about this new title. Many people are speculating that the title of Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be changed to Final Fantasy XV, and even more people are wondering whether the game will ever make it to the PS3 or simply wait until Sony’s next console. With E3 only a few months away, time will tell. At least we won’t be waiting seven more years.
