In a Nintendo Direct today, Satoru Iwata announced an evolution of their DSi software: Flipnote Studio. For those who don’t know, it allows you to create images and flipbook animations using the DSi and now 3DS’ touchscreen. This new version comes with a plethora of new features including the ability to save the animation to AVI format.
They are also including a number of new social features, one of which requires a small monthly fee. “Flipnote Gallery: Friends” allows you to share your flipnotes with all your friends and allows you to rate flipnotes as well as download your favourite ones. This service is free for anyone who downloads the software.
“Flipnote Gallery: World” however allows you to share your flipnotes with other subscribers all around the world, albeit for a small monthly fee. This fee can be wavered however if you get consistently high ratings on your “flipnotes” while subscribed to “Flipnote Gallery: World”. There is a 30 day free trial for everyone so you can see if you like seeing how different cultures draw Mario’s moustache before subscribing.
Flipnote Studio 3D arrives in Summer 2013. Watch the Nintendo Direct Mini below.
