Hold Off Purchasing Sniper Elite V2, Warns Rebellion

Developer Rebellion Games has warned fans within the sniper community not to purchase Sniper Elite V2 this week. The studio apparently intends to make a large announcement regarding the 2012 shooter.

The developer said:

We’d advise against buying Sniper Elite V2 on Steam in the next few days, but we WOULD advise scoping out potential snipers to play with … news soon.

Rebellion has said the tease is regarding a “significant” announcement for the Sniper Elite franchise that promises “to extend the reach of the series to a new audience.”

The studio did say, however, that the announcement had nothing to do with the upcoming launch of Sniper Elite 3, which is nearly upon us, next month for North America and late this month for Europe.

Our money is on a next-gen release of Sniper Elite V2 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If that is the case, developers need to stop. Releasing old titles on the new consoles is a shameless plug for money. Many people already bought the game, a few graphics tweaks here and there isn’t worth paying another $60 for.

However, Rebellion was quite quiet on the announcement, so we’ll have to see what they’re on about when the time comes.

What do you hope Rebellion has to say?
