Nintendo announced earlier this morning that their upcoming puzzle-adventure title Pikmin 3 has been delayed once again. The new release date for the third game is now set at August 4th in stores and on the Nintendo eShop.

This is at least the third time Pikmin 3 has been delayed. Originally the game was to be released during the Wii U launch window, which ended March 31st, 2013. Then the game was delayed until the April-June quarter, right around this time.

Nintendo did not give a reason as to why this latest delay was put into effect. Hopefully it was something important, as fans are surely getting anxious and more than a little upset at the multiple delays.

Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto explained last month that games he generally works on end up being delayed for some reason and Pikmin 3 should be expected to be the same.

Miyamoto:

And in my mind, there’s really two kinds of games: games that get delayed and then there’s games that sort of shift [laughs],” he said at the time. “I’m sorry. I know everybody is waiting for it.

To try to appease the eager fans Nintendo announced a brand new Pikmin for the game as well. The flying Winged Pikmin will allow players to carry items through the air.
