Last week we found out that demos downloaded off of the Wii U’s eShop come with a limit on them. These play limits can be anywhere from 5 to 30 times and once those are up the game will be blocked from that console. What we did not know was who decides the amount of times the demos may be played.
Nintendo has now confirmed that the game publishers set their own limits for the demos of their respective games. Games such as Rayman Legends has a limit of 30, which is the highest they may go. While Fifa 13 can only be played 10 times before the demo will be locked from the user.
Every time you start up a demo that you have downloaded you will be welcomed with a message. These pop ups will tell you how many times you have left to play the game. Keeping it right in your face that there is a certain number of times you may play.
Limiting the play time on a demo is a new thing and one that is not likely to have any fans anywhere in the word. Hopefully this is just a fad that will disappear quickly because it sucks for gaming. The same system is used on the 3DS as well as the new Wii U.
