Sony Hit With DDOS Attack This Weekend

Sony revealed they were hit by a hacker group over the weekend, who imposed a DDOS attack on the Sony services, including the PlayStation Network. Sony worked tirelessly to return all services to users, though they warn some may be spotty. Some users may experience difficulty logging in, slow response times, and authentication failures.

In an official statement, Sony said:

Like other major networks around the world, the PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network have been impacted by an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic.

Although this has impacted your ability to access our network and enjoy our services, no personal information has been accessed.
We will continue to work towards fixing this issue and hope to have our services up and running as soon as possible.

We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.

Sony wasn’t the only service hit over the weekend. The hacker group calling themselves ‘The Lizard Squad’ also attacked Microsoft and the Xbox Live services. The group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, as well as those against Blizzard, Riot Games, and Grinding Gear Games, amongst others.

Were you affected by the outages this weekend? How do you feel about these hacker activists trying to humble massive tech companies like Sony and Microsoft?
