Titanfall Devs Explain Why You Can’t Shoot Through Walls
Titanfall will feature some massive mech combat going on in the streets of this futuristic world, but those powerful arsenals won’t be able to make a hole in a wall it seems. Respawn Entertainment, developer of the upcoming first-person shooter, has revealed on the game’s official forums that players will not be able to shoot through walls using their Titans. They said:
No shooting through walls for this title. It’d take a fair bit of design work to do otherwise, especially with the power of the Titan weapons. From a realistic standpoint you would expect them to be the most effective at penetrating walls, but that would just make life suck for Pilots.
Future installments in the Titanfall series may have the feature implemented, but for this years release, it won’t be a thing. Respawn did say there would be ways to seek out campers and eliminate them, however. For now, Respawn does not see destructible environments as a way to open up the gameplay. They continued:
Another title having a feature is not the bar by which we justify features. While I’m acutely aware of the benefits of bullet penetration in the tactical shooter genre, with the way this game plays I’m not sure what sort of design space it would really open up. It’s certainly not a feature I find myself missing and I don’t even think it qualifies as ‘something we would definitely have done if we had the time.’ No doubt we’ll evaluate it further depending on our next project, but it’s definitely not a no brainer.
Titanfall releases March 11th exclusively on the PC and Xbox One. The Xbox 360 version was delayed to March 25th. Respawn is planning to hold a beta for PC and Xbox One, though they have not revealed a start date.
