Nintendo’s newest console, the Wii U, has only been available for a couple of days now and reportedly the system has already been jailbroken. Homebrewers claim they have hacked their way through anti-piracy measures, made by Nintendo, to jailbreak the system.
Jailbreakers are always looking to get by the digital rights management, DRM, systems and anti-piracy measures made by game companies. These hackers exploit bugs and weak points in the operating system of the console to get past the security systems.
This hack allows users to play pirated copies of Wii U games as well as unauthorized software. This worked on the old Wii system and has been rumored to work on the Wii U system while it is running in Legacy Wii mode.
It is this mode that most likely enables the hackers to get into the new system and jailbreak it. Perhaps Nintendo will release an update to solve this issue if they can.
