Wii U Sells 300,000 In Japan

Despite not having a huge amount of people show up to launch parties and store opening, Japan had a strong launch. The Wii U sold over 307,000 units across the country over the course of the weekend. The original Wii sold around 350,000 units, so no contests won there but still not a bad number for Japan. If there were more stock and availability of the new system they could have easily sold more.

In North America, the Wii U sold over 400,000 units, so far Japan is in second for sales numbers as we wait for a final tally from Europe. There has also been news of how well games sales did for the new console during the launch weekend.

  • New Super Mario Bros U.: 160,140
  • Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate: 106,454
  • Nintendo Land: 66,583
  • ZombiU: 10,680
  • Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper: 7,252
  • Tekken Tag Tournament 2: 4,951

Not bad numbers for the games sales either throughout Japan. So far the Wii U is successful everywhere it has sold, this is good news for Nintendo even with them competing with themselves and the handheld market.
